Gosport to Brixham
23 July 2010 | Brixham
Warm few clouds no rain
Tuesday 20 July 2010
We decided to make best of the tides and weather and depart Gosport Marina towards Yarmouth.
It was a pleasant evening sail but the wind decreased, so we finished motoring most of the way.
We arrived at Yarmouth just before 2000, cooked dinner and we then retired for the night.
Wednesday 21 July 2010
Up early for a 0800 departure towards Weymouth.
We motor sailed to the Needles and then found there was a nice wind blowing from the direction we wanted to go in, there was also a swell making it very uncomfortable.
So we tacked out to sea heading due south, towards France!
After about 1 hour the wind changed direction went more to the south, so we tacked again and started heading towards Weymouth.
Because we had gone a good 5 miles south meant we were on a good course to miss St Alban's Head. The Lulworth military range were firing so we had to keep 4.5 miles south of Lulworth. Sailing close to the wind and with the tide we were only 4.1 miles of Lulworth and the range safety boat came along side and asked us to sail half mile out to sea. With the risk of being fired at we complied and tacked out to sea for half a mile.
Once clear of the range we changed course and decided to go to Portland Marina, so we never went into Weymouth.
In the evening we ate onboard.
Thursday 22 July 2010
Another early start, up at 0600. We had to be round Portland Bill by 0800, we departed the Portland Marina at 0630 and by 0750 going round the Bill.
There was a gentle F2 wind so we motored sailed. After a while a southerly breeze kicked in and we sailed the rest of the way to Brixham.
On arrival at Brixham we found that there was only one other yacht on the visitors pontoon, later a few other yachts arrived.
Being a long day we ate fish & chips ashore and had an early night.
Friday 23 July 2010
After 3 days of sailing we had a rest day in Brixham. In the morning we had a walk round Brixham and in the afternoon went for a longer walk to Berry Head. With a great view of the coastline we could see for miles and watch other sailing boats heading towards Brixham.
We had a restful evening eating onboard Sea Dream.
Sea Dream's position at 15:23 (utc) 22/07/2010 was 50°23.89'N 003°30.54'W
