St-Cast-Le-Guildo - St Helier - St Peter Port
23 August 2010 | St Peter Port
Warmer then late
Wednesday 18 August 2010
After a relaxing morning we left St-Cast-Le-Guildo just before 13:00. There was a fresh Southerly wind and we were soon under-sail making 6 knots through the water.
At the Minquiers we had to make the decision to either head towards St. Peter Port or change course to St Helier. St-Peter Port was some 6 hours away where St Helier was just over 2 hours. So we changed course and headed towards St Helier.
On arrival at St Helier the waiting pontoon was a little busy so we went along side a German Yacht. The couple of the German yacht spoke good English and in conversation told us that they were just starting off the their 2 year voyage to the Mediterranean.

To catch the tide we were up early and by 08:00 departing St Helier and sailing along the south side of Jersey.
Once clear of Jersey we changed course towards St. Peter Port. This put us almost on a run with the wind behind us and with the light airs and swell made it all a little bit uncomfortable.
About half way through the passage the winds become very light so the last part of the passage was done under motor.
On arrival in St Peter Port we stopped for fuel, putting just under 40 liters into the tank. Marine diesel is a lot cheaper then at home and the total bill came to £23.00.
Once we had filled up we went round to the marina and were allocated a finger pontoon berth, which makes it easier to get on and off the boat. The marina was not as busy as it was two and a half weeks ago when we were here.
In the evening we ate fish and chips from the local chippy on-board Sea Dream.
Friday 20 August 2010
A relaxing day looking round St Peter Port and doing a little shopping. In the morning the weather was fine but did go off in the afternoon with some light showers but it was not cold.
In the evening we had a very nice meal ashore at one of our favorite local restaurants called The Boathouse.
Saturday 21 August 2010
A warm morning with lots of sunshine. We did some shopping and final preparations for our passage back across the channel.
This afternoon just before 16:00 we will depart and head towards Alderney. If conditions are right we will cross the channel on Sunday.
