It was not the greatest of starts. First of all, after dropping the mooring lines, we couldn't get the engine into gear and were drifting between the reef and other yachts. A little bit of lubrication though, and all was well. Next problem, after yanking the main sail up, the repaired battens came apart and started dropping out of the sail, so down the sail came again so we could remove them, and up we yanked again. Thirdly, with all the business of sails and turning the boat into the wind and back again, the fishing line got wrapped around the prop. So Neil, for the first time ever, had to dive into the sea mid ocean and unwrap it. The sail was still up although we were only moving 2 knots, but there was risk involved. The first time he went under he took so long, I started panicking and thought he was in trouble. But to my relief he popped out with some of the line. Another dive down was needed before the rest of the line was removed and I was extremely relieved when he was on board once more. With sea depth of about 2000 m it was pretty scary stuff. We are now sailing nicely at about 5 knots in 12 knots of breeze. We are accompanied by yacht Morpheus who are about a mile ahead of us, although it looks like we are going a bit faster and should overtake them at some stage. We have run out of gas on board so are now using our emergency one plate cooker, so meals will be even simpler than usual on this passage. Let's hope we can fill our gas bottles in Tonga otherwise we may have to purchase new bottles. All going well, we should arrive in Tonga on Tuesday morning, local time, taking us two nights.
