Saltwater Mangrove Channel
21 December 2010 | The Riviere Salee, Gaudeloupe
JY- Sunny and Hot
The best sailing day ever. After a late start, due to issues relating to coolant being in the engine drip tray and not my regular breakfast entertainment, I motored off towards Gauleloupe. Soon after leaving the protection of the harbour, the wind picked up to the forecasted 15 knots from the east north east. This meant a beam reach all the way down to Gaudeloupe. You couldn't ask for any better sailing conditions. Unfortunately I did have to use the engine for 3-4 hours because the batteries needed recharging. Once the engine was off it was champagne sailing all the way at between 4.5-7 knots.
I arrived at a suitable anchorage spot in the mangroves, closed all flyscreens, had a short happy hour on deck and then retreated to the safety of the cabin (to avoid the bugs) for a very, very quiet and dark night by myself. Not a good time to watch the movie Cape Fear with Robert De Niro
