A few months ago our friends Ed and Cara Morris began looking to buy a trawler. They found one located in Staten Island, NY and subsequently bought it - a beautiful 1989 42' Grand Banks named Seahorse.
We saw Cara walking around our complex in FL a few days later and said "if you need crew to bring down your boat - let us know"
Well, tomorrow we leave to drive north to begin our adventure of helping bring the boat down to our marina located in North Palm Beach, Florida.
As Ed readied for the trip and began purchasing various pieces of equipment and adding, and adding and buying items for the boat as well as taking things from his current boat - his garage began to fill. He also sent a checklist to us to review and add what we thought was missing. Of course we added items that you couldn't live without!
To get all these items to the boat as well as 4 adults with their belongings, bedding, and miscellaneous stuff (that you can't be without for approx. 3 weeks) Ed rented a Chevy Suburban. Having visited the staging area (his garage) we weren't sure if everything would fit without one of us possibly being tied to the roof rack!
Never fear Tom & Cynthia Leising (we're the crew) to the rescue. When we brought our sailboat down from Buffalo, NY to FL in 2009 we had a waterproof car carrier on our top deck which acted as a garage and gave us extra room for all the 'must haves'. Using this freed up some space and it will make for a much more comfortable drive.- (I hope)
We leave tomorrow morning at 6:00 a.m. I'm signing off now but will write updates each day to chronicle this trip.
