• Staten Island to Atlantic City)
by Cynthia Leising • Extremely foggy
While Ed readied the boat for departure, Cara made the coffee - and guess what, you can remove the bottom portion tray of the coffee machine and the Tervis cup fits! Way to go Cara - she may take over the title of barista
Cara and i helped the boys leave the dock to go to the fuel dock. Of course when they arrived there was a boat in the slip. Fortunately someone came to move it and they were able to fuel. Meanwhile Cara and i lakes to the hardware store to buy some propane canisters and a toilet paper holder. Success on both counts. Back to boat and the men were finishing the fueling. Departed at 9;30 in heavy fog.
Ed proceeded slowly: of course the radar that worked down below last night wasn't working today. We all donned our foul weather gear since it was damp and misty, except Ed who remained in shorts!
The fog broke somewhat giving us some visibility but then came back. All in all it was overcast and gloomy. Had some morning snack of my sticky buns, then later lunch. Continued our trek to our destination of Atlantic City.
Mid afternoon Ed experienced some engine issues. He had the synchronizer on and when he turned it off it didn't disengage the port engine. throttle control was inoperative. Tom took the helm while Ed went below to investigate. He operated the controls from down below and the synchronizer finally released the port control and everything was fine. Ed continued to run without the synchronizer.
About 20 miles from Atlantic City the details of the chart coverage from the SD card was lost. The next chart had not been loaded. Luckily TV Tom had his computer with the charts so Ed fired up the generator and Tom was able to guide us the rest of the way.
The entrance was poorly marked but with the 4 sets of eyes, and Ed having been here before we made it safely to the dock and tied up. We broke out the champagne and had a celebratory drink on the top deck.
Cynthia made chicken fajitas for dinner and by 10:00 pm everyone had said goodnight.
