Some are not so lucky

Once the furler has been put in order and the dinghy hoisted to deck and secured. I make a second attempt at a run up the Neuse River. Winds are once again advertised as Southerly at 5-10kts but this time its true. I'm sailing on a very different river today. There's just enough angle on the wind to make a long close hauled run all the way to the town of Oriental. I pull into a slip at Deatons Boatyard and exchange fluids (pump out the holding tank and take on fresh water). I'll get the bike rolling and make for the grocers to re-provision. Then I can find a shower and laundry. And all the people rejoiced!
Later in the evening a towboat brought in a salvaged boat that had a tough go of it in Tropical Storm Andrea. The boat has a weighted centerboard and the hoisting pendant parted allowing the board to drop. Then as the storm passed and the water levels dropped the boat grounded, pounding the board through the bottom of the hull. I helped the salvage crew bring the boat into the travel lift slip so the boat could be hauled. This is a view of your boat you hope you never have to see.
