Cruising at last!

We have finally finished up our to-do list enough to go cruising! Our guests, Harvey and Sherry, arrived on Monday, and have been wonderfully helpful ever since. Sherry has been on mould duty and Harvey has been helping Jonas with such things as overhauling winches and inflating the dinghy. Yesterday, I checked the engine, changing the impeller - it was in truly bad shape! - and went up the mast to re-install the running backstays and inspect the rigging.
Today, after finishing up a small list of things that still needed doing, like checking that the anchor windlass was still working (one of those jobs that is either very quick and simple, or else long and painful), The four of us went out for lunch and checked out of Jolly Harbour Marina. We had a nice, although upwind, sail to Carlisle Bay, where we anchored for the night and had dinner on board.

Yes, Barbuda is technically part of Antigua & Barbuda, but I felt like giving it its own album. The two islands felt like they were worlds apart from each other.

Now we've come back to France. Des Iles des Saintes are actually part of Guadeloupe. Bourg des Saintes is the only town, and it is a bit resorty, but it is mainly French tourists. Very picturesque in any case.

We were both charmed by this island. The people here are incredibly friendly, the scenery is stunning, and I can't believe that I had never heard about Dominica as a vacation destination before.
