Smaller yet closer to a boating life
19 May 2015
We got notice we got the new apartment we'd applied for over the weekend.
Yay!?
It's bitter sweet. We love our current apartment and our location but know that this new place will get us much closer to the goal. The good news is, we may be able to see the water from our new place!
And so the packing purging begins in earnest. So too begins our efforts to learn to sail. I've been looking at where to take classes and as it turns out the marina near the new place not only have classes, it has a couple of sailing clubs that call it home.
From what Aaron has read so far, sailing clubs are a great way not only to learn but to get involved in the sailing community. Since we are typically on the introverted side, this may be a stretch for us but we will try...
Minimally seaworthy

It's been a couple weeks now since that fateful afternoon we were struck by the idea to live on a boat.
While I've spent much of my childhood on boats and the favorite granddaughter of the Power Squadron, I've never had much interest to learn to boat. Aaron, however, has been talking about owning a sailboat for years. That dream was put on the back burner when we took jobs in DC and left Florida in the dust.
Both of us have tried to remember how we got to this idea, but neither remember exactly. Yet, we couldn't be more sure of this decision.
Today marked the solid beginning of this journey when we woke up at o-dark-thirty to sit through our boating safety certificate class (and passed). Tomorrow we hope to hear back from a new apartment we applied to that is part of our downsize-and-save plan. Assuming that we are approved, the mission to purge the worldly goods we've drug around DC for the last five years will begin in earnest and the move will begin.
