Swimming with a dolphin

Tenacatita is a lovely anchorage. We have been here twice before. Historically, we were here in 2011 when the Japanese tsunami reached the Mexican shore. Like every other smart sailor that day, we went to sea and waited until the worst had past before coming back to anchor.
Today, we arrived in almost dead calm conditions with almost no swell (like a mill pond on a hot summer day) and boy was it a hot winter day in the tropics. But the water was a cool 71 degrees, so we wiled away the afternoon playing in the water and practicing on our inflatable paddle board, While swimming, we were surprised by a wild dolphin jumping near us. Sue had on a dive mask and was able to observe the animal shoot across the bottom just below her. He must have been having some fun scaring us because as soon as we got out of the water to get a better view he left. This may be the same dolphin we saw on both visits two years ago. The locals call him "Chippy" because he has a large notch missing from his dorsal fin. Unfortunately he left before we could get a good look. We are going to stay here for another day, so perhaps we will get a second chance. We thought of our granddaughter Claire whose very favorite animal is the dolphin.
Tomorrow we plan to take our dinghy up the river into the estuary and dock at the old marine park (which is now closed due to a land dispute). From there we can walk over to the beach on the other side of the peninsula and snorkel in an area the Mexicans call the "aquaria".
