Hi All!!
Currently anchored front and center in Falmouth Harbor, race central. The attached picture is of a group of young Optimist class sailors practicing just behind SeaSwift in the bay. The 2019 Optimist World Championships will be held here in July. These kids are amazing sailors and seem to be out perfecting their skills every day. Fun to watch their antics as they continually challenge one another while pulling off daredevil tactics.....plus seeing how close they can come to the anchored cruisers. Not to worry.....we have tonnage on our side.
Since last post we sailed from the Saintes up the west side of Guadeloupe anchored at the Pigeon Islands for 2 nights and then moved to the north end of the island and spent 3 nights in Anse Deshaies (bay) This is a delightful little community similar to Terre de Haut. I've always avoided it in the past because it's a tight anchorage and with the ever changing fickle winds the boats are always pointing every which way! Turned out to not be an issue and found good holding.
Next stop after a super 50 miles crossing was Jolly Harbor.(even made 50 gallons of water on the way) Checked into Jolly with the plan of staying a couple days and stayed 6! Capitalized on the Epicurean Market one of the best I've found in the Caribbean. Also enjoyed some fine meals ashore and a board Joe and Teresa's magnificent 50' St Francis catamaran "Free Fall" and Theona and Allister's 54 Jeaneau. A bit of Hobnobbing with the BIG boats. Still appropriate to say......everyone is having a fantastic time but not an ounce more than is had on stout and sturdy little SeaSwift!
Columbia is in harbor here now! I will strive towards hopefully earning a crew position for the upcoming Classic Regatta this week. There currently are at least three times the mega yacht's at the docks than last year. (Counted 22 up lit masts with red lights on top last night) That's only the sail boats as there are also several very large power yachts. Amazing boats of the very wealthy, all here to join in the festivities. More pictures will be posted for sure......
Wish me luck getting a crew position!
Cheers!!
