Nassau here we come!

31 December 1969 | Nassau, New Providence, Bahamas
Glenn.
Anchor up at 0645 this morning and we bumped our way out of the anchorage. Tide was lower as we exited the anchorage and we bumped quite a few times leaving. We're off to Nassau.

We'd found Shroud Cay an amazing place, worth some further exploration another time. We were able to dingy through the mangroves to an amazing beach on the ocean side. Sue, the kids and Lori were able to swim and play in the water. Because of my recent leg injury I was not supposed to get the would wet, so spent the time reclining with a book ("The Graham Formula"), playing with a hermit crab I'd found and taking lots of pictures of my family ... and enjoying watching my family play in the water.

During enroute Nassau, we experienced quartering waves from the stern quarter, so some roll but downwind so was pretty comfortable. We motor-sailed with Genoa and made amazingly good time and arrived in Nassau, anchors down in front of the dingy dock at the Green Parrot, by 1400 (2pm). We averaged about 7 knots and once even topped 9.5 knots surfing down a particularly large wave.

Crazy enough, after anchoring at uninhabited islands the last couple days, and sparsely inhabited ones before that, this afternoon we caught the bus to the mall and we found ourselves eating at the busy food-court in front of the entrance to the movie theater .... talk about culture shock to be in a big-city after being in the family islands. It is nice to find the food-stores stocked with lots of food and most things close at hand.

We will probably stay in Nassau until the Open Air Campaigners course June 8-13 and then sail for Freeport.

Q: Why "Seawing"? A: "If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me." (Psalms 139:9-10)
"And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead." (Acts 17:30-31)
