Day 1, 7/29–Home port, St Clair Boat Harbor to Port Sanilac
29 July 2019 | Port Sanilac
Doug Lauzon | Sunny, warm, and calm seas
Our first day was an easy forty mile cruise with sunny skies and following seas. The gusty winds and rain came shortly after docking, but did stop for a walk into town—the pic tells it.
Port Sanilac was originally known as Bark Shanty in the 1840’s, when the town’s people tanned bark on the beach. Many buildings have historical markers going back to that era. Today the waterfront is a harbor of refuge with a marina for local boaters and transient mariners. It is located half way up “the thumb” of Michigan’s east coast.
Tomorrow we will cruise to the top of the thumb to Port Austin.
