Day 5, 8/2–Day in East Tawas
02 August 2019 | East Tawas
Doug Lauzon | Blue skies and warm
After spending a night camping with Anne & Steve in their RV trailer, we awoke to 52 degree temps this morning. Hot coffee, while sitting outside, sure was good!
We headed out and drove around the cove to the State Park, touring the tip of the peninsula called Sandy Hook. The Tawas Point Light Station was a fascinating visit that told many stories from the mid 1800’s. One of the few guides that mariners of the past had available, compared to today’s devices of GPS, radar, and chart plotters.
Lunch was at a roadside BBQ spot that served some of the best pulled pork. We had some topped with coleslaw and other with mac & cheese. (Ice cream is after dinner)
Tomorrow we depart early for Alpena, about a 62 mile cruise, making our way north towards the top of the mitt.
