Day 6, 8/3—East Tawas to Alpena
03 August 2019 | Alpena, MI
Doug Lauzon | Mostly sunny and calm seas
Awaking this morning was like the first snow of the season—our boat was covered with fish flies, aka June bugs, aka—hose the boat down before leaving port.
Our travel today was a 62 mile course from a vacationing town on a bay to one rich in history, named Thunder Bay. Alpena is a town of 13,000 at the end of the bay, offering a safe harbor, nine miles in from Lake Huron. Beneath the protected waters is a sanctuary of tales, forming what is called Shipwreck Alley.
This evening there was an outdoor amphitheater, “bring your beach chair”, performance of “Mama Mia” next to the marina.
Tomorrow we are off to Rogers City for our last night before traveling to Mackinaw City at the top of the mitt.
