Day 7, 8/4–Alpena to Rogers City
04 August 2019 | Rogers City
Doug Lauzon | Windy and rolling seas
This leg of the cruise today definitely proved our skills and love of each other. The lake was not too kind with a forecast of 1-2 foot sea conditions, when it turned out a bit more challenging. Well, we are still Captain and First Mate.
Roger City, as another port that is a friendly resting place for mariners, is a historical landmark with much of it's legends preserved beneath the cold and clear fresh water of Lake Huron. Many ships from as far back as the early 1800's navigated and now rest here. Just on the southern shore of Rogers City is Michigan Limestone, operating the world's largest limestone quarry.
Tomorrow is a 48 mile trip and the last leg to Mackinaw City where we will dock for two days, take a ferry to the island, and go back in time where only bicycles and horses are the only transportation.
