Day 9, 8/6–Day on Mackinac Island
06 August 2019 | Mackinac Island
Doug Lauzon | Sunny and warm
This morning we took the ferry from the City(Mackinaw) to the Island(Mackinac)--the French occupancy changed the spelling of the island.
It is truly a step back in time with the only transportation of bicycles and horses. Mackinac Island is a destination for vacationers, boaters, and both the Chicago to Mackinac and Port Huron to Mackinac sail boat races. World famous Mackinac Island fudge, The Grand Hotel(with a 600 foot long porch), cottages & inns, Fort Mackinac, abundant floral landscaping, and horse carriage rides make this a return trip for many. For those riding bicycles, the route around the perimeter road of 8.2 miles is a great way to see the sites.
We did the Carriage Tour ride around the island, had lunch overlooking the boat harbor, and of course Sanders ice cream, and fudge.
Tomorrow is uncertain due to the changing weather conditions and forecasts.
