Day 11, 8/8–Day in port at Rogers City
08 August 2019 | Rogers City
Doug Lauzon | Sunny with gusty winds
Today was spent as a day in port, sheltering from gusty winds and rough seas. There were a few brave (or foolish) that went out from the harbor, but as they say--you have to respect the water and its power.
We walked the town and had lunch at Plath's, famous smoked meats since 1913 by five generations from recipes brought from Germany.
An afternoon gathering was on our boat with Jerrod and Heide from Bay City. They just purchased a 44' Carver, took delivery in downriver Detroit, and decided to come here before heading south to their home port.
Tomorrow we will go to a local historical museum to learn more about the heritage of this shoreline town. Many info boards and items displayed around the marina and town streets tell of the importance this area had in developing the economy and growth of Michigan.
