Day 2-Traveling the Welland Canal
29 June 2022 | Welland Canal
Doug Lauzon | Morning light rain, sunny afternoon.
We departed Port Dalhousie shortly after sunrise, heading to the northern entrance of the Welland Canal. There were four boats in our group, each with a minimum of three persons onboard for Seaway regulations.
The Welland connects Lake Ontario to Lake Erie with a system of eight locks taking us a total of 330 feet higher in elevation.
After an eight and a half hour voyage we arrived at Port Calborne at the entrance to Lake Erie. We shared a well deserved visit to a local ice cream shop with traveling friends, Jason and Stephanie, that just took delivery of their new 44' Viking Sportfish, "Chaos".
Tomorrow we cross Lake Erie to Erie, PA where we will check into US Customs.
