Day 3-Crossing Lake Erie
30 June 2022 | Lake Erie
Doug Lauzon | Sunny, warm, and calm seas

Taking advantage of the early morning low winds, we departed Port Calborne heading twenty miles south towards Dunkirk, NY. Once on the southern border of Lake Erie, we continued west to Erie, PA where we would check into US Customs. Just a couple miles from our destination, the US Coast Guard and Border Protection stopped us and boarded our boat. Since all our traveling papers, passports, and inspection was in order, we were released without incident. I guess being that the previous owners Ontario numbers were still on the bow, they must have thought some illegal Canadians would be their catch of the day.
Once completing our fill up with diesel and a pump out, we checked in for our slip. Paying $6.00/gallon seemed like a bargain compared to the $8.25 in Toronto! After having a pizza at a local brewery we enjoyed a jazz performance near the waterfront.
Tomorrow we continue west for sixty seven miles to the Mentor Yacht Club, Mentor, Ohio, in suburban Cleveland.
