Whitsunday cruising

Currently anchored in Woodwark Bay, with very calm conditions, regardless of weather forecast. Worked on boat today, cleaning waterline outside (by Jenny) and inside by myself swimming. Installed fishing lines above safety lines in order to persuade feathered wildlife to choose another boat to poo on. We intend to discover more of the whitsundays when the wind decides to settle down to a light roar, until then, we will have to extend happy hour well into the evening.

Preparations for cruising

At Bowen harbour, doing all the necessary things for cruising the whitsunday islands. Should be ready to depart on Tuesday 27 th June. Motors tested, and had to replace a broken end on the morse cable to the starboard motor. So far all else OK.

Starting cruising season

Finally got over health issues to enable this years cruising. Removing mooring lines at Bowen harbour caused an unscheduled fall over on deck, and a severely bruised shoulder. Must remember that when pulling in a snagged mooring line, that it may give way suddenly, causing the top of your body to approach [...]

Back at blowen Bowen

Have returned to boat at Bowen. Bird net that we put over boat worked very well keeping 6 or so birds inside the net, to ensure that they pooed over various parts of boat. Next time I will close all possible feathered friend entrances. Other than this brush with local wildlife, all is well, with the exception of Jenny, who has caught someone's flu.

Finding the smoke

Weather started to get a tich blowy, so we moored boat at Bowen Harbour, installed the bird net, and set off to find some smoke for the TV that had lost it. First call was on daughter and son-in-law and very noisy grandchildren (only 3 I think, sounded like a school), this was closely followed by a visit [...]

Finally got over health issues to enable this years cruising. Removing mooring lines at Bowen harbour caused an unscheduled fall over on deck, and a severely bruised shoulder. Must remember that when pulling in a snagged mooring line, that it may give way suddenly, causing the top of your body to approach the deck at speed - ouch!

Having navigated that minor mishap, we pulled half of the marine growth of Bowen harbour out with us on our hull, and proceeded to take it to Woodwark Bay, where calm moorings and fresh oysters awaited us.
Decided to stay awhile, as forecast is a bit unpleasant, and have been diving on hulls to remove the covering of growth.

Went ashore about 3.00 P.M., gave jenny a fishing line and she could not pull the fishy things in fast enough. (whiting). I got to clean them . Score was Jenny 8, Barry 2. They even delayed Sundowners, which have just finished.
Off to Woodwark bay on the tide to-morrow to get ready for visitors. (Tom and Margaret-Jenny's Dad and lady.)

Weather started to get a tich blowy, so we moored boat at Bowen Harbour, installed the bird net, and set off to find some smoke for the TV that had lost it. First call was on daughter and son-in-law and very noisy grandchildren (only 3 I think, sounded like a school), this was closely followed by a visit to J B Hifi, requesting a replacement T V complete with smoke. They were very obliging, and we should be ready for the next state of Origin match! Meantime, a backup unit is expected to reach Airlie Beach to-day. We won't be there to welcome it to its new home.
We deserted Muppy to-day, leaving her in Townsville with the grand kids, and drove to cairns via innisfail, where we had lunch with daughter and more grand kids (only 2 this time as 2 were absent.) Now we are with yet another daughter in cairns, very peacefull as no grandkids, in fact daughter deserted us tonight to enjoy the culinary delights of downtown cairns.
Intend to return to boat soon.
