35 43.12N/ W71 56.67 July 1, 2008 9:10am Last night was an experience. Our passage was as predicted and then some. Starting with 7-10 foot seas and 18kt winds, and moving to 8-14's with 30kt winds. Then bonus time: heavy downpours provided by a weather system that seemed to be assigned to our boat. But, course, all of our boats had do deal with winds that pushed into the 40's at times. 30kts became a welcome pull back in velocity. Add to that, our boats don't show as well as they should on radar. (We will need to find a cost effective remedy for that issue). As dawn was breaking our pet weather system was dumping rain water which significantly reduced wave heights. There was also contact with another sailing vessel making 11kts and looking to cross the paths of all 4 syc boats in the vicinity. Sei Via Mare held up well in all conditions and has been high and dry except for one cockpit wash this morning that's to a few inches of wave top that made it over the rails. Today's weather looks much better and we are set to begin our crossing of the Gulfstream at around midday today.
