Out Of The Mist
18 January 2010
No sooner had we digested this surprise than here she came, out of the mist, all 961 feet!
Pretty exciting really.
The following year we replaced the AIS receiver only, with a Class B transceiver. Much more expensive, but the purpose is to be seen. 50' may not seem a small boat, and even though steel, DE does not give off a really strong radar signal. AIS allows us to identify big ships and call them by name if needed; and gives the watch aboard big ships three ways to see (and avoid) us - visual, radar and AIS.
