B-b-b-bear!
23 July 2010 | Anan Bay, AK
Hello boys & girls, we are just about to depart Wrangell AK, in the pissing down rain -- not monsoon instensity, but has been raining heavily all night. We'll be traversing the Wrangell Narrows today; last year we did this in very thick fog, and I will be content to do it in the rain if we can have the visibility I'm seeing here inside Wrangell Harbor.
Two days ago we visited the bears at Anan Bay -- black bears and eagles fishing away in earnest. And a close-as-I-want-to-be encounter with a brown bear, who ignored us as he was plunging from pond-to-pond in his own unique fishing strategy.
Next: Petersburg, then Tracy Arm Glacier, then Juneau.
