M/V Shearwater has departed Hong Kong! Our hearty sailors left Hong Kong Sunday morning at about 0630 Hong Kong time (2230 UTC). For those of you who are not familiar, UTC, or Greenwich Mean Time or Zulu, are all names for the time at the 0 meridian, and is the time that is used in all weather forecasts, and info for mariners. From now on, the boat will be on UTC, so there will be no confusion about weather info and such.
There are five crew members on the Hong Kong to Subic leg of the trip: David Cohn, captain/owner; Dave (Mike) Nagle First Mate; Wade Biggs, Engineer; Roger Rude, cabana boy, I mean Cabin Boy and Anders Juel, who is a Dragon Air pilot and is having a boat built at Seahorse Marine. I'm not sure what Anders' title is.....
The run to Subic Bay will take about 100 hours, or about 4 days. The crew has been watching the various weather sites, such as Passage Weather, and it looks like it should be a pretty nice crossing.
I believe the plan is for David Cohn to post to Sailblogs via satellite phone each day. Also, Mike will call me each day on our sat phone and I will post on our Sailblogs account each day as well.
