estimated 24hr position: N 6deg 41.5' E 156deg 20.0'
baro: 29.74; last 12 hrs 29.68 - 29.74
wind: ENE 16-17; wind has only come up from less than 10 in the past 2 hrs; initially I though this associated with the squalls visible ahead
but not we are well past them and the current speeds are persistent
seas: up to local sunset (2-3 hrs ago) they were in the 1meter range with modest chop; since the wind has picked up, things have gotten appreciably bouncier
but well within tolerable limits
cloud cover at local sunset was 40% with some squalls visible ahead, which passed by Shearwater without effect
Pohnepei is 250miles out; aproximately 10 hrs ago we kicked up our rpm in hopes of making it inside the reef at Pohnpei Sunday afternoon (local) in daylight. should the wind/sea situation
persist, or increase, we will likely not make it in time to enter Pohnepei in 40 or so hours from now. If, as we approach the objective, we see that that we will not be able to enter in daylight
we will slow down and hang out until Monday morning local. We received your last email and are happy to know there are no weather events developiong in our area the next 12-24hrs.
Big full moon lighting up the sea tonight and while I'd rather things were a bit smoother, this will do as we continue to make progress to Pohnpei and Lee assures us there's no
threatening weather for the next 24hrs Capt David, and Chief Engineer Wade cooked up our latest tuna catch for dinner tonight and it was really quite good. Tomorrow sometime, or
maybe tomorrow night we will cross N 157.5deg longitude and into the next time zone -- ZD -11. The John Deere 4045 continues to operate smoothly; I think we passed 500hrs yesterday
or the day before; this has been a great break-in for the engine.
