sailblog #2: dodging typhoons from half a world away
01 December 2007
Ever since we got to the West Coast, we've been reading and hearing about a series of tropical storms and typhoons with tracks close to Subic Bay PI. (and today I find out from Ruth & Randal Johnson's email [DoraMac, our diesel duck sister-ship] that this past couple days there was actually an attempted coup in Manila). We have capable people / good friends looking after DE and prepped it for the anticipated weather. Fortunately we got a miss. Feeling pretty powerless here, but also very grateful for the folks we have watching out for the boat.
message #1 I inserted a photo taken from the top of the mast looking down at the decks and top of the pilot house. in this message, I'm including another which shows the same view further aft. New non skid on decks and pilothouse rool (safety orange on the roof for hi vis in a SAR situation); new canvas and kayaks on the new structure we had welded over the cockpit and deck aft of the pilot house, and if you look closely there's Dorothy belaying me.
