Sequitur

This morning we are leaving La Paz to spend a few weeks exploring the anchorages between here and Loreto. We are thinking of starting by spending a week or so visiting the exquisite little anchorages on Isla Espiritu Santo less than 20 miles north of here. There, on the Island of the Holy Spirit we will surely find Sequitur a more comfortable place to spend this Christmas Eve than we found for her last year.

Below is a photo I shot last Christmas Eve as I waded my way through the half metre of still-falling snow to Sequitur's berth in Snug Cove on Bowen Island. The photo serves as a reminder of one of the reasons why we have sailed south.



However, the weather is only one of the reasons. Yesterday as we sat having lunch in the cockpit in 27 degree weather with a pleasant cooling breeze coming over the combings, I observed how our diet has been changing. Instead of paninis appropriate to a cooler climate, Edi had prepared quesadillas and served them with delicious guacamole and fresh tomato salsa that she had made.

We both love exploring foods and different tastes, and our preferences have always been to prepare food from fresh ingredients, rather than to open packages. The supermarkets here are full of row upon row of the same standard packaged and processed foods that we ignore at home. However, the fresh produce shelves, dairy cases and meat and seafood counters offer many new things to try, and I anticipate as we move through new areas on our voyage, we will find more and more items being added to our diet.

Over the next few weeks it is quite unlikely that we will be finding any internet connection. Instead of clicking computer keys, we will be trying-out our new snorkelling gear, determining whether our new cameras are as waterproof as advertised, and seeing if our rail-mounted reel and small arsenal of lures can fool any fish.
