[Editor’s Note: Sorrry this has taken so long to hit the blog site. We forwarded our laptop to Montana, and once we got there, we immediately updated our Operating System. Those of you who spend any time on the computer can guess at the ensuing nightmare. Let’s just say that it took us the better part of a week to get back to where we started. ‘nough sed.]
DAY 00 – Redwood City to Berkley
Daily: 64 Miles / 33.4 MPG
Total: 64 Miles / 33.4 MPG
The house is almost empty, the rooms echo when you walk through. We make a final flurry of cleaning and turn to packing for the next leg of our adventure.
At 3:05 PDT, only five minutes behind schedule, we lock the door for the last time, turn the key in the ignition, fire up the engine and we’re gone.
This afternoon’s drive is a preliminary; a trip to pay one more visit to our friend Beth in Berkley, drop off some boxes to store in her garage and to avoid the Bay Area mass transit strike scheduled to hit San Francisco at midnight. Just to make the trip a little longer, we had to detour to Half Moon Bay, on the coast, to pick up the fleece jacket I left at a restaurant earlier in the week.
It was Sunday and 95 degrees on the Penninsula, so all roads to the beach and back were bumper to bumper. Amazingly, the Gay Pride Parade not withstanding, the coastal highway into San Franciso was practically empty and we quickly made our way across the Bay Bridge.
We had a wonderful meal and turned in early to get a jump on our Big Day.
