Andrew
I am the Young Master and Commander of SV Severance. I have owned her since 2002 during which time I’ve sailed her over 30000 miles; three times across Biscay, the length of the Mediterranean and back, across the Atlantic and up and down the Windward and Leeward Islands. [...]But following a series of unfortunate and some would say unsavoury incidents in waterfront bars and shabeens around the world, in which my participation was greatly misrepresented and grievously misunderstood, I now have great difficulty in getting anyone to sail with me. Thus I have to trawl the depths of dockside humanity for my crew. Hence…
Tom
I ambled through much of 2007/8 crewing for Andrew in various parts of the world. Being the youngest member of the crew I have spent the last 2 weeks locating lost reading glasses, finding lost computer adapters, making tea and cooking dinner. Having not moved from dock number E 10 in Rodney Bay Marina I do not know why I am here and need sponsorship for the next available flight out………IS THIS COMMUNITY SERVICE OR A SAIL BOAT???
Aisling
I’m Aisling, Irish, and a world explorer…the modern female version of Christopher Columbus. I usually travel by trains, planes or automobiles but this time it’s a sail boat.
I sailed from the Canary Islands in December 2008, to the Cape Verde islands and finally Martinique for Christmas day. Since then I’ve been sailing up and down the Antilles on whatever boat will take me along as deck hand and/or chief cook and bottle washer.
I joined Severance in mid February in Antigua and have been doing many of the jobs as mentioned above by Tom + keeping the skipper alive with my culinary skills. The CV is quite impressive at this stage.
So Severance needed rufty tufty sailors to do the transAtlantic passage…..and they got me!!!!!
David Sargison
First sailed across the Big Pond in 1983 when i was about Tom’s age. You may wonder why I’m doing it again................Aside from the last 9 months life as a banker in the Cayman Islands has not been the most exhilarating. Really looking to do the passage age 26 years the wiser and 100lbs heavier. Having had the opportunity to read the profiles of my ‘Super Hero’ crew mates it clearly gave me licence to shall we sa expand on my CV: Having semi retired from my real job as a stunt man for Daniel Craig rumours were circulated in the appropriate circles of a “get away from it all luxury” sailing cruise in the Caribbean starting in the Caribbean Island of St Lucia. What could be better, I could rest my weary bones and catch up with old friends from St Lucia from my days as stunt man for Chrisopher Reeves (Segments of Superman II were filmed in St Lucia). It rained my whole time in St Lucia. No hot showers on board, before i could use the on board “facilities” i had to install a new electric water pump. With seconds to go before setting sail the manual water pump coughed up its last droplet and yes you guessed yours truly head in cupboard putting in the new water pump. Captain Andrew assures the sun does shine in St Lucia and once the “Luxury Cruise “ begins all those little irritations will be forgotten: Can’t wait........................................
Severance.
She's a 40' Najad 400, built and launched in Sweden in 2001. She weighs 12.5 tonnes, has one mast, five berths and a comfortable saloon. Normally she has two heads (bathrooms) but right now one of them is full of bottled water. She has teak decks and is mahogany below. For sails there's a main, genoa, staysail, storm sail and cruising chute and an emergency "get you home" main. She puts up with a lot really, never knowing where she's going to sleep next or who's going to clamber all over her, being sick etc. But she never complains...
