steel sloop, built in New Zealand. The second Lorelei was a Tayana 37 cruised in the U.S.A and Mexico from 1996 to 1998. S.V. "Shadow of Lorelei" is a Lord Nelson 41, built in 1986. She cruised the U.S. West coast and South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia with her previous owners. Mauro fell in love with her in Brisbane in 2004. The Quest has been to reach Fiumicino, near Rome, Italy. It has been ongoing since 1986 but thus far, no luck. We were on a course that would have take us from Australia to Japan then Canada, down to South America, up back again the other side of the Magellan Straits and then, after Gibraltar to .... Fiumicino. But the cold got to us in Japan. We have managed to create a reference of sorts for those who want to explore this very hospitable country. Mauro died suddenly of cardiac arrest in the Philippines on 13 January 2010, on our way back from Japan to warmer climes. This blog was mainly his work, contributed in a small way by Pauline. Sadly, now it is time to farewell Shadow of Lorelei. She is lying in the luxury resort of Sutera Harbour, in Kota Kinabalu, Borneo, Malaysia. She is still ready to go, ready to provide a new adventure for her future owners.
