The Busan Yachting Center on Suyeong Bay is the main yachting venue for the city.

The center is located between Gwangalli and Haeundae. It hosted all yachting events of the Asian Games in 1986, Seoul Olympics in 1988, and Busan Asian Games in 2002. The domestic yachting area hosts all the yachting events of the city as well as the rest of Korea. A variety of festivals and ocean-related exhibitions are held in the international yachting area.

The marina can accommodate as many as 1,360 yachts both in and out of the water.

Events like the Pusan International Film Festival's (PIFF) opening and closing ceremonies, the Citizen's Festival and marine related exhibitions are also hosted throughout the year.

Busan Metropolitan City, (also known as Pusan) is the largest port city in the Republic of Korea.

With a population of about 3.65 million, Busan is also South Korea's second largest metropolis, after Seoul. The most densely built up areas of the city are situated in a number of narrow valleys between the Nakdong River and Suyeong River, with mountains separating some of the various districts.

Busan was the host city of the 2002 Asian Games and APEC 2005. It was also one of the host cities for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and is the center for international conventions in Korea. Administratively, it is designated as a Metropolitan City. On November 14, 2005, the city officially announced its bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics Games.

Commercial areas are dispersed throughout the city near busy intersections and adjacent to university campuses, but the two largest central business districts in Busan are Seomyeon and Gwangbok-dong/Nampo-dong. There are also four substantial shopping areas of note: Seomyeon, Gwangbok-dong, Busan Dae Hakap in Jangjeon-dong, and Haeundae.

Seomyeon is the crossroads of Busan. The local subway station serves two lines and is one of the busiest in the city. The local head offices of Korean and international banks are located in Seomyeon. It is recognized as the ascendant shopping and entertainment districts with many cafes, bars, restaurants, department stores, shops, and offices. Directly adjacent to Seomyeon is Bujeon Market, the largest traditional market in the city.

The Gwangbok-dong, Nampo-dong, and Jungang-dong areas form the old central business district with many offices, cafes, bars, shops and restaurants. Some of the restaurants in this district are locally famous with family recipes passed down the generations.

Jagalchi Market (near part of the very active port) is an area of narrow street stalls and is well known for its fish market. The Gukje Market is also located nearby. Jungang-dong is the home of many international law offices, the old Immigration Office, and the international ferry terminal serving Japanese routes. Lotte World II is currently under construction along the water between Jungang-dong 7-Ga and 8-Ga. When completed, Lotte World II will house a hotel, department store, entertainment complex, and a skyscraper that will be one of the tallest buildings in the world.

Dongnae area is a traditional as well as wealthy residential area. Dongnae Oncheon is a natural spa area with many baths, tourist hotels, restaurants, clubs and shopping areas. Many restaurants in the area are famous for their family recipes. Chungnyeolsa is a Confucian shrine for soldiers who died during the eighteenth century battle against the Japanese at Dongnae Fortress.

Busan is the so-called summer capital of Korea since it attracts tourists from all over the country to its six beaches. Luxury hotels and a carnival boardwalk line the beach at Haeundae, which is generally regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in Korea. Gwangalli Beach is famous for its cafes, bars, and restaurants along the beach. The area around Pukyong National University and Kyungsung University has many cafes, bars and restaurants attracting college students and youth.

Taejongdae, is a natural park with magnificent cliffs facing the open sea on the island of Yeongdo.
The area known as the "Foreigners' Shopping Street", but commonly referred to as "Texas Street" near part of the Port of Busan, has many businesses that cater to the local Russian population, as well as the crews of foreign ships. The area was originally the location of the local Chinatown and still contains a Chinese school. Because of the Chinese presence, the area was designated as to serve the commercial and entertainment needs of American soldiers and businesses were set up there during the 1940s and 1950s to cater to them.

PROVISIONING
SUPERMARKETS - There's no shortage of supermarkets close to the marina. Directly opposite the marina there is a small family run super at the base of the commercial block set amongst the residential towers. Some 10 minutes walk away you'll find Homever, whilst two subway stations towards the city at BEXCO (Centum City) Station is HomePlus a 5 storey supermarket operated by Tesco of the UK. In the opposite direction from town by subway, just one stop away at Jung-dong Station is E-Mart.

FRESH FOOD AND FISH MARKETS - You'll find fresh vegetables being offered out of the back of vans if you wander through the streets around the high rise towers. Isolated groups of vendors congregate in back alleys and outside subway stations. The vegetables they offer are invariably fresh. For fish, walk or take the bus for a few stops to Millak raw fish village that is just before Gwang-alli beach,

COMMUNICATIONS
TELEPHONE - There are literally dozens of companies that offer cheap, discounted 'phone cards in Korea. The problem is getting one. The easiest place to find them is in the Chinatown section opposite Busan Station, although the convenience store in the basement of the Busan Youth Hostel Arpina also sells some. A conveniently located international 'phone can be found on the second floor of the marina office complex.

FAX - Available through the marina office.

INTERNET - Busan is a wired city. Look up along almost any street that you walk along and you'll see a sign that contains "PC" in bold letters. These are internet caf�s. Around the marina precinct you'll find that the Arpina Busan Youth Hostel has internet booths at 1500 won ($1.50) per hour. If you have a laptop, it's free. If you just need a brief connection, you can use free internet at any bank or post office in Korea.
The Busan Yachting Association on the marina grounds, may be able to help out with a connection at times when the center is not busy. You'll also find coin-in-the-slot internet on the first floor of Busan Station.

WIFI - Busan is blessed with many sources of free wifi throughout the city. In the marina area, however, it is difficult to find such a service. Nespot and Anytime operate pay as you go services but their signals are often weak.

BOOKSTORES - Bookstores are sometimes difficult to find in Busan. On the second floor of the HomePlus center there is a small bookstore that carries English language magazines.

POST OFFICE - There is a post office at the Haeundae Market across from Haeundae Beach, also in the Sponzy Mall across from Haeundae Station and in the Kyobo Building near Seomyeon.

TRANSPORTATION
SUBWAY - The No.2 line can be caught at either the Busan Museum of Modern Art Station or the Dongbaek Station. This connects with all other subway lines to other parts of the city.

AIRPORT - An airport shuttle bus (Airport Limousine Bus) picks up from directly outside the main marina office, on the main street and takes you to Gimhae Airport.


TRAIN - The KTX bullet train frequently departs from Busan Station to Seoul (2hrs and 40mins) and other parts of the country. It is cheaper to travel during weekdays on the KTX than at the weekend. Web: www.korail.co.kr You can get Wifi while you travel at 300kph.

BUS - Several bus routes operate from directly outside the marina, The 1001 will take you directly to Busan Station. Other routes include the 5, 302 and 307. The 1003 which operates from outside Dongbaek Station will also take you to Busan Station via BEXCO (Busan Exhibition and Convention Centre) opposite which you'll find HomePlus. National bus lines operate throughout Korea with a Busan to Seoul journey taking approximately 4 hours and 50 minutes.

REPAIRS
HAULOUT - Local yachts haulout at the fishing harbour just behind the marina. This is a rail system with cradles and can haul up to 50 tons. It is possible to crane-lift a vessel out onto the marina's hard stand, but fees are high.

MECHANICAL - There are numerous specialists available for engines, generators and motorized equipment either in or through the marina or the yacht support persons listed at the end of these notes.

ELECTRONICS - In the Nampo-dong/Jagalchi/Yeoungdo area there are numerous dealers and repair services for most global brands.

SAILS AND RIGGING - There are no sail lofts or yacht riggers in Busan. Some minor repairs can be carried out by a local canvas worker, talk to Windy Chon. Rigging wire is available from numerous stores in the Yaengdo-gu fishing harbour area (take No.1 line to Nampo-dong subway station).

CHANDLERY - In the Yeoungdo area you'll find many fishermen's supply stores selling well priced marine equipment and some yacht gear, including top quality antifouling paint at low prices.

FORMALITIES
On arriving at the marina please make your way to the main office located on the 1st floor of the central office complex. You will be required to fill out several forms for berth allocation and registration, quarantine, customs and immigration notification.

You are then required to wait for quarantine (and sometimes customs) before you may proceed into central Busan for your immigration, and sometimes customs, clearance.

Immediately after your arrival, the office will generate a bank deposit slip for the marina costs over the period you nominate. You are then required to go to the Woori Bank on Woo1 dong (5 mins walking distance and deposit the appropriate amount in cash at the bank. Neither the marina office nor the Woori Bank accept foreign issued credit cards. However, a short distance from the Woori Bank on Woo1 dong, at the base of the building that houses the CitiBank, you'll find an international ATM machine from which you may withdraw the required funds.

CUSTOMS - The Busan Customs office is located near the International Ferry Terminal in the Jung-gu area. Take the subway (line No.2) from Dongbaek to Seomyeon, transfer to line No.1 in the direction of Sinpyeong and get off at Jungang-dong. The office is well marked and right next to the subway exit. IMMIGRATION - The Busan Immigration office is also located near the International Ferry Terminal in the Jung-gu area. Take the subway (line No.2) from Dongbaek to Seomyeon, transfer to line No.1 in the direction of Sinpyeong and get off at Jungang-dong. COAST GUARD - Located at the edge of the marina complex as you go away from the bay, up river.

QUARANTINE - Quarantine will be arranged by the marina office and is conducted at the marina. Tel: day time (051) 643-0351, night time (051) 442-5330

MARINA SERVICES
ELECTRICITY - Is available at the berth. Both 110V and 220V are supplied. If you do not have the correct plug to connect please see the marina office to arrange purchasing one.

WATER - Water is supplied at the berth.

PERSONAL SERVICES
SHOWERS - The showers at the marina and the Busan Yachting Federation's clubhouse are cold water only. Hot showers are available at the Arpina Busan Yacht Hostel located approximately half a kilometer to the right as you exit the marina office building on the opposite side of the highway. The facility is located in the basement and is available by payment only.

MEDICAL - An extensive range of medical and hospital services are available in Busan. Across the road from the marina, in the commercial building amongst the high rise apartments are a doctor's and a dental clinic are located on the 4th floor.

MONEY - Whilst the uptake of credit cards and electronic fund transfer cards (EFT) is increasing in momentum, many automatic teller machines (ATMs) in Korea do not accept credit, debit and ATM cards, which are issued outside of Korea. The big exceptions are the ATMs found at the Pusan Bank. The provision of services for the visiting tourist, however, has been incorporated into many of the checkout swipers in the country.

LAUNDRY - A laundry service is located on the third floor of the commercial building amongst the high rise apartments located directly opposite the marina's main office building. The fees are reasonable.

WASTE DISPOSAL - Trash and waste must be securely sealed in plastic bags and left at the top of each finger for collection and disposal.
