Victoria River Escarpment

For the Easter break Trish and I wangled a few extra days and headed south of Darwin to Katherine and then turned right on the Victoria Highway for WA. On the way we dropped in at Umbrawarra Gorge and then camped at the Victoria River Roadhouse. The river and escarpments there are impressive. Unfortunately because of the big wet Gregory and Keep River National Parks were closed due to flood damage to the roads. This pic is at the Victoria River Roadhouse. A few km downstream is a big Boab tree inscribed with the date of 1855 when the explorer Gregory sailed a small square-rigger nearly this far.
