Horseshoe Island Cruise Day 2
01 July 2010 | The Bay of Green Bay
Cap'n Kenny
Another beautiful day boating on Lake Michigan. It was the first time in a long time that I've been able to sleep in. I was up by 08:00 hours though and had the coffee made. Karla woke up early and came over with her coffee cup but I wasn't up yet. It was cool and overcast this morning but there was no wind and the water was like glass. You could see several fish swimming around the boat.
We call the skipper of the boat that turned back yesterday this morning and he was still having problems with his engines, even with the new parts. They were still going to work on it trying to figure it out and maybe make it out later in the day.
Several small boats and fishermen came into our little bay but the fish just weren't biting. From our boat, I could see a larger bass on the bottom. It chased one fisherman's bait but then turned around and went to it's claimed spot in the sand.
Barb got up and started making a late breakfast. We set up an electric skillet on the back table and I ran an extension cord to our new Honda EU2000 generator. We had scrambled eggs and sausage links. Karla joined us for breakfast too.
In the early afternoon, I took a hike around the island checking it out. Karla either took a nap or was straightening out her boat. Barb set on the aft deck working on her Swedish weave project she's been working on. A little later in the day we all went in for a swim. The water was a cool 68 degrees but once we got in it wasn't so bad.
We pulled out an electric grill that we brought along on the trip to grill up some vegetables and steaks. I set it up on a picnic table next to the boat and plugged it into the generator. We've had this thing for around 3 years but have never used it before today. It took forever to grill up the vegetables and the steaks. Well were not going to have it for much longer.
We called Ed again this evening and they are still having problems. We also called Steve and left him a message to bring some block ice with him when he came out tomorrow. Later, Steve called back and left a message saying he wasn't sure he was coming out because of the forecast weather. I checked on the weather and it's supposed to start getting rough tomorrow afternoon lasting through Sunday with 4 foot seas and winds. Monday and Tuesday there are thunderstorms in the forecast. We'll talk about the weather at breakfast in the morning to decide what we're going to do. Barb and I can ride it out but Karla has to be back to work Monday night.
