A warm summer cruise in the Bay of Green Bay

19 July 2011 | Bay of Green Bay, Wisconsin
Cap'n Kenny
Today was going to be a warm one here in Oconto. There's no wind and the bay is like glass. I convinced Barb to get out of bed at 11:30 this morning and have lunch somewhere out on the bay. She packed a couple of sandwiches and some fruit and we headed out a little after noon.

I first set a course for Sturgeon Bay then changed course heading instead to Little Sturgeon. We were about halfway across the bay when we stopped, turned off the engines, and had a picnic lunch while floating out in the middle of the bay, listening to oldies on the satellite radio.

After lunch I set a course to the Oconto County park #2. Our top speed on this trip was about 7 mph so it was taking us a lot of time to get anywhere. We were in no hurry to get someplace so we took our time. Barb worked on her Swedish weaving project and I kept the boat on course while we both listened to oldies music. I really like satellite radio on the boat.

After getting to the Oconto County park I changed course again heading back toward Oconto along the coast. About halfway back from the park I spotted a couple of other yacht club members anchored just outside the Oconto Harbor at one of the swimming holes so we headed their way. We stopped and anchored for about a half hour then decided to head back home. We both had a wonderful day of just relaxing while slowly cruising on the bay where it was a lot cooler.
