The Day of Ida (Nov 9)
01 December 2009 | Turners Marina
After having arrived in Mobile to a light drizzle, we started to secure the boat.
Hard to judge the line length attached to the posts because of uncertainty of the expected surge. All sails were lashed and battened down, anything that could fly was removed including the dodger and enclosure etc. Not knowing the strength of the expected storm and the boat know secure, we went to the Super 8 Motel and watched the storm on the television. The next morning there were reports of minimal damage with a very low tide surge having taken place. The marina road was open by 11:00 am for small vehicle traffic as opposed to 4 x 4's which were able to access the marina around 7 AM. Kudo's to the staff at Turner's for the wonderful job of coaching everybody on preping the vessels for the impending onslaught of weather. That's it for Ida... The rest of the week was spent drying out and refitting items removed. On Nov. 13, we left Turners marina headed for the intercoastal and hopefully warmer climate...
