"The Crossing"
02 December 2009 | Carabelle
There are a number of ways to cross the gulf, straight across or around the bend or a combination of both. Doing the combination of both in this case allowed us to do our easterly component for the first six hours and motorsailing at 6 plus knots. After the six hours we adjusted course and headed slightly further south and headed for R2 below cedar key. Nightfall brought us an almost full moon and flattening seas and of course , the odd friend (dolphins) appeared next to the boat. Crab pots materialized as we approached R2. The crew of Xephia ,Pam & Steve were of the same opinion, time for rest as the window would allow.Anchored off R2 , apprx. 15 miles from shore in 20 ft of water at 12:30 AM. Up an at it at 6:45 AM the next morning and onto Tarpon Springs. We ventured into the inland route and found CRAB POTS (by the thousands .only what seems to be a slight exaggeration). We arrived in Tarpon Springs at 4:45 PM .Total travel time, approx. 30 hrs (not incl. ZZZZZ time). We plan on staying for the week in TarponSprings as the weather (again) needs to clear. Till next time....
