The Great East Australian Current

08 January 2020 | South China Sea
Ginni
Pos 24 29'S, 153 16'E, at at 1839 Qld time. At about 0730 this morning we sail/motored down the river from Bundaberg town to the sea. We are now many miles away and have rounded the tip of the sandy bight that stretches about 27nm off the northern tip of Fraser
Island. We can now see Fraser Island in the far distance to our SW. Bundy was quite hot, but not as hot as last March when we visited. There seemed to be more breezes blowing to cool us all off. I had a couple of fun days visiting with my youngest daughter and her
almost 3 year old son, who is a very busy little person, never letting up on all the adults. After sailing all the way down this east coast from the very far north we have had wind and current almost constantly hitting us head on. At last though, when we turned the corner
above the sandy spit and headed south the current and wind complied and we are being driven southwards.
The water so far has been full of fish boils with circling birds and occasional dolphins. One dolphin came to play on the bow while his fellows stayed to chomp on fish. One sad faced booby bird spent some time circling our boat, just checking us out as a potential landing
platform. most of the time they do that, fly over and leave an enormous calling card and say 'That feels better' and fly away. It takes a bit of cleaning up after their kind visits. Our fishing line is out and we have ordered tuna, yellow fin or blue fin, not fussy there, but no one
has sent it yet. We'll try again tomorrow morning.
Time to go. The blanket of night is settling down on us. The moon is almost full so it will be a gorgeous night. Tomorrow then, John and Ginni
