14 April 2013 | Shilshole Bay Marina, Seattle, WA to Appletree Cove, Kingston, WA
After arriving at Scoots in the wee hours of the morning, we were up at 7 AM to start getting ourselves and Scoots ready for sailing. This included, among other projects, passing the three head sails--which had spent the winter all cozy in Scoots' aft cabin--through the forward hatch, and attaching them to their furlers.
Though thunderstorms were forecast for the afternoon and evening, the skies were blue, the wind was light, and we couldn't think of a reason not to be underway. So after a lunch in our sunny cockpit, we cast off the dock lines and headed out. I backed Scoots out, while Eric handled the lines and fenders.
Out in Puget Sound, the wind was light and the weather was almost warm. Scoots ghosted along while Eric and I enjoyed the scenery and the sensation of being out on the water again. Soon, we noticed a racing sailboat getting closer and closer; eventually they came alongside. It was Ryan Helling and friends on Voodoo Child. They'd seen us out sailing and asked if they could take a photo of us and Scoots, which they'd send to us. Thank you, Ryan!
A few hours later, we decided to tuck in for the night at Appletree Cove, at Kingston, WA. Eric handled the lines again, and I was at the helm. Docking went great.
After checking in at the office, we sat in our warm and sunny cockpit (the thunderstorms never materialized) having drinks and snacks, then walked into Kingston and had dinner at a little pizza place near the ferry dock.
It was a great beginning to our first multi-day sailing trip with Scoots!
