Our big adventure has begun

Our big adventure has begun
We left Mazatlan on s/v Panta Rhei with our friends, Larry and Karen, bound for the Galapagos Islands. After we left the breakwater, we were going to raise the mainsail, and Ed asked Larry "Where's the halyard?" Larry said, "It's right there, uhhh, it's not there!" "Where's the halyard?" yelled Larry frantically. It was not where he always kept it and we could not find it. (He had workers from the boatyard working on his boat in Mazatlan and he thought they had mistakenly pulled it to the top of the mast.) So, Larry said, "who wants to go to the top of the mast to retrieve the halyard?" Nobody spoke up!! I didn't mention that there were big swells and we were rolling pretty good. So Larry decided to go anchor behind Deer Island where the water was calmer instead of going back to the dock. Ed decided he could go up the mast, however we were still rolling on the swells, but not as bad as before. When he got to the top of the mast, after swinging around from side to side and having to hang on really good, he found that the halyard was not up there but was clipped onto the topping lift at the back of the boom!! So Ed had gone up to the top of the mast for nothing! What a way to start a trip! We raised the anchor, raised the mainsail, and got underway. After having our "Chinese firedrill", we figured the rest of the trip should be problem free (hopefully). We're on our way! Life is good! Next stop is La Cruz.

The rest of the trip to La Cruz was uneventful with very little wind and mostly motoring. When we got to La Cruz we were happy to find a lot of our friends there. We went to a "rum tasting" event at the yacht club and it was a great chance to socialize with many friends. The next day there was a meeting followed by drinks, appetizers, and more socializing. What a life!! A friend had use of a car, so they took us to Costco in Puerta Vallarta and the Mega, and we stocked up on lots of food for the trip. After 2 busy days in La Cruz, we left on another overnight trip to Barra de Navidad, where we're looking forward to meeting up with more friends.
