Back Home in Oceanside
18 January 2010
We arrived back home in Oceanside late Saturday night. Les called us Sunday morning to report that Sirocco arrived in Cabo at 1:15 am Sunday morning. Les and John left Nuevo Vallarta at around 11:00 am on Friday. They covered 300 miles in only 38 hours. That's an average of about 7.9 knots/hr. Wow! They were able to motorsail with jib and reefed main and had some nice southerlies push them north. No problems with the boat so far.
But now there doesn't look to be a good weather window to go north from Cabo. As all of us know here in SoCal, there are several large storms that will hit the west coast this week and travel south to Baja. Gale force winds are projected in the San Diego area late Monday afternoon. So it looks like Sirocco may sit in Cabo for awhile until a weather window opens. This El Nino has really changed the typical weather patterns.
Our cat Akeeva was well taken care of by Patt Heinrichs. He didn't seem to miss us and keeps looking in the spare bedroom for Patt. It feels good to be home but I miss the boat already. I can't seem to sleep as well which is probably due to the trains and Lee's snoring. He didn't snore in Mexico, I think a result of the high humidity.
