Ensenada de Los Muertos (Cove of the Dead)
11 November 2010
We arrived yesterday afternoon to the "Cove of the Dead" anchorage after spending one night in Los Frailes. We had orginally planned 2 nights at Los Frailes but there wasn't much to do there so we decided to move on. The seas were up the first couple of hours and we contemplated turning around but finally the waves eased up a bit. We had the double reef in the main when we heard a loud pop. The ring that was holding the block bent and pulled through the cringle of the sail. It took about 45 minutes to make the repair but by then the wind was lightening up a bit so it wasn't too difficult. It took us 7.5 hours to go 46 miles so we still made decent time.
This morning we found an issue with the engine-driven refrigeration compressor. It started squealing yesterday and when Lee checked it this morning he discovered the compressor bracket had fractured. We had all kinds of trouble with this bracket last year too. We're hoping we can get it welded in La Paz. But for now, no refrigeration. We still have our freezer so we shouldn't have any issues. We hope to go to La Paz tomorrow to get it fixed and to make some other minor repairs.
The anchorage here is beautiful. Very clear water and very warm. We saw a couple of baby turtles swim by the boat this morning.
