Mazatlan
26 November 2010

Mike Cobas, our crew for the last month, flew home today. We will miss him. He was a huge help in running the boat and is an all around nice guy to be around. He was also very patient in putting up with our changing itineraries. And best of all, he enjoyed my cooking :).
We took the air-conditioned tourist bus (which cost all of 9 pesos, about 70 cents) into the center of Mazatlan. Our first stop was the central mercardo where you can purchase all kinds of meats, fish, and produce. It's huge! And very colorful. There's something for everyone's liking, including pig's head. The malecon is full of copper statues, all anatomically correct.
We wandered over to Liberty, a sailboat from San Francisco whose owners' Russ and Kaersten we had met in Oceanside right before the HaHa. They have been hitting all the anchorages and ports we have. So Inclined and us thought we should invite them over for cocktails and instead they invited all four of us over for dinner! We had a great meal, swapped exciting stories, drank lots of wine, and stayed up past midnight, that is real midnight. The cruisers' official midnight is 9:00pm because we all can't seem to stay up past that time. But last night was an exception. It turns out Kaersten is from Chico and knows some of our old friends. Small world.
We talked to our friends Dave, Marisa, and Mark on Pacifico. They are in Cabo and plan to head over to Mazatlan soon. We will need to stay in Mazatlan for a couple extra days since Bob broke a tooth and is having some dental work done. The timing should work out where all 3 Oceanside boats will buddy boat down to Puerto Vallarta. That will be fun.
The air temperature here in Mazatlan has been unseasonably cool. It's about 10 degrees below normal. Last night I wore sweats to bed. But the days have been perfect.
