Cruisers' Christmas
26 December 2010 | Puerto Vallarta
Merry Christmas to everyone! It's a little strange celebrating Christmas when the weather is so nice but we managed anyway. The crew from So Inclined came over to Sirocco for Christmas dinner. Bob Ray is staying on Sirocco until he flies home on Sunday. Dinner consisted of smoked turkey breast from a local butcher shop (which tasted fabulous!), stuffing, cranberry sauce, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy and best of all, brownie sundaes for dessert. Mike made the brownies and brought over the ice cream. We then played the dice game "zilch" until midnight. Little did we know that Amanda's (Mike's daughter) boyfriend Abe was a semi-professional zilch player. He beat us quite easily.
Today, Dave and Marisa from Pacifico came over to join us. Their boat is at the La Cruz Marina so they took the bus over to Nuevo Vallarta where Paradise Village is located. So Inclined is in Nuevo Vallarta but at a different marina. It's very close though. We all spent the day at the Paradise Village resort and then went to the Fajita Republic for dinner. Last year, John Erhardt recommended this restaurant and we really enoyed the food. And the trip over is a little adventurous. We go by dinghy down a river that is known for crocodiles. No crocs but once again the food was very good.
It truly is a small world among boaters. We were sitting in the hot tub this afternoon and we saw some people get in the water. One of the women had some sort of ID card that looked like it had the Oceanside Yacht Club burgee. I thought I was seeing things so I asked Mike if it looked like the OYC burgee. He thought it did too. Turns out the family is on Hubba Hubba, another sailboat from J dock in Oceanside. I'm not sure what the ID card was. It sort of looked like an old OYC membership card. Anyway, Hubba Hubba is about 6 slips down from us here in Paradise Village, about the same distance they are back home in Oceanside at J dock. Talk about coincidences!
