Manzanillo
22 January 2011
Manzanillo is in a bay right around the corner from Santiago Bay and is a large commercial port that supposedly allows cruisers to anchor inside the jetty with permission from the Port Captain. We (Lee, Cathy, Dave, Marisa, Mike) decided we should check it out by foot first before we move the boats over. The bus ride was an hour and the port is huge. We decided it would not be wise to move the boats over. The port reminded me of Long Beach. Lots of trucks carrying cargo to and from the shipyard. We walked around the old town and did a little shopping and then proceeded to get lost. But a bus came by and we were able to make it back to Santiago.
We all like the rotisserie chicken so much we stopped again on the way back to pick up chicken for dinner. You hear in Mexico about the locals bringing chicken on board the buses. Well us gringos did the same, albeit they were cooked chickens! The bus was very aromatic.
After the bus dropped us off we discovered we were just in time for happy hour at the Oasis Bar on the beach next to where we parked our dinghies. Probably was a mistake staying for the entire happy hour. We misjudged launching the dinghy into the surf and the three of us (Mike was with us) and the dinghy were dunked. I was able to save the chicken but not the tortillas. We also lost a roll of paper towels. Mike had some oil filters that might have gotten a little wet. We had made it to and from the beach without incident this entire trip and were due for a dunking.
