Life In Barra
01 February 2011
Lee and I and Mike had planned to go to Zihuatanejo by bus to catch up with Pacifico and participate in the Zfest activities. But it's an 11 hour bus ride (to go only 200 miles) and my back has been giving me problems again. I don't think sitting for 11 hours will work out for me so at the last minute we decided not to join Mike on the trip.
We keep mentioning what a small world the cruising/sailing community is and today we had two more examples. Our mainsail is basically falling apart (note: this is not an Elliot Pattison sail but is a North cruising mainsail that came with the boat.) It is delaminating and now a batten has pushed through the inboard end of the batten pocket. We found a guy in Barra that repairs sails who had his own loft many years ago in Alameda. We brought the sail over to his house and it turns out that when he has requests for new sails, he goes through Elliot Pattison; he is the Barra rep for EP Sails. Maybe we will get an EP discount on the repair. Later in the day a gal walked by on the dock and asked if we were from Oceanside. Her name is Tamara and it turns out she's the gal that bought Current Affair from Norm and Midge. She's sailing with a guy that owns an Islander 36.
