Back to Cuastacomate
08 February 2011
The marina life in Barra was becoming a little boring and expensive so we left Barra with So Inclined and went around the corner back to Cuastacomate. This is a small anchorage that is very picturesque and quiet. There were a lot of boats leavin Barra at the same time. We almost needed a traffic cop in the channel. Most of the boats were heading south to Santiago where we plan to go in a couple of days. We hope to meet up with Pacifico again as they return from Zihuatanejo.
Sunday we did get to see the Super Bowl. I was rooting for Green Bay since Aaron Rodgers is from Chico, where I went to college and where we lived for over 20 years. Things got a little exciting at the bar we were at when the satellite feed went out with 2 minutes to go. We considered phoning a friend to get the live play by play but fortunately the feed was restored. The satellite feed was from Canada so we didn't get to see the cool commercials that are usually televised during the game. Most of the ads were for TV shows, upcoming movies, and Canadian banks. Boring. But that gave us ample opportunity to socialize with the crowd. We ran into Tom and Mary Ellen from San Diego who are cruising a double-ender that Tom built named Equinox. Tom is a fairly frequent visitor to OYC as he regularily races the Southwestern race on his other boat, a Schumacher 28 named Windrower. We first met up with Equinox at the Channel Islands Marina in the summer of 2009 when we were doing our shakedown cruise to the Channel Islands. Then we met up with them again in the 2009 Baja Ha-Ha. They left their boat in Puerta Vallarta over the summer and are now cruising the Mexican Riveria with the rest of us.
