Preparing for Banderas Bay Regatta
05 March 2011 | Paradise Village, Nuevo Vallarta
Today we moved over to Paradise Village from La Cruz. This is where the regatta activities will be. As soon as we pulled into the slip, we started offloading some gear to lighten Sirocco. The dockbox is full, and Sirocco looks much better floating above her waterline stripe.
The handicap wrangling has already begun. Preliminary handicaps were posted yesterday and we noticed the other J/130 was rated 12 seconds higher than us. Hmm. Lee contacted the race committee and we were adjusted another 3 seconds so now we give them 9 seconds due to their shoal keel and small jib. It will be fun racing against another J/130.
Race preparations include procuring a battle flag. Our crew back home has been asking for a battle flag (yes, Ted, that means you). We found a woman here in Banderas Bay who makes flags so she's sewing one up for us. Guess what color it is?
The next few days will keep us very busy reconfiguring Sirocco from cruising mode to race mode but we are both looking forward to getting out on the race course again.
