First Day of BBR Activities
10 March 2011 | Banderas Bay, Jalisco

Yesterday was the first day of Banderas Bay Regatta activies and the race committee held a practice start event called "Start Your Heart Out". Sirocco went out early and practiced all kinds of manevers including tacks, spinnaker hoists, spinnaker windward takedowns, Mexican takedowns and several gybes. We also hoisted the code 0 and flew across the bay to the practice start area. It was blowing about 15-16 true. We then jumped into the second start sequence and timed the line perfectly. By the time we reached the windward mark 1/2 mile away, we passed all the boats that had started in the previous start sequence. Lee snaked Sirocco around all the slower boats. It was beautiful, almost like a dance. Some of the crews were a little startled to see us come up so fast. I don't think most of these cruising skippers are used to such close quarters.
We were pretty tired by the time we came in but chefs Dave and Anne prepared a terrific chicken dinner that revived us.
Today the yacht club posted photos from yesterday's practice and Sirocco was on the photo album cover.
