Crossing the Sea
19 April 2011 | Los Muertos, Baja Sur

We’re a little behind on our posts since internet access has been limited the past few days. The crossing from Mazatlan to Bahia Los Muertos (Bay of the Dead) was an easy trip. We had some thick fog leaving Mazatlan but the radar guided us through the narrow harbor entrance. About 14 boats left at the same time so we had to keep an eye out until the fog lifted about 3 hours later. It’s about 190 miles from Mazatlan to Los Muertos.
We were able to sail for about 5 hours. Of course, right when we had the best sailing conditions we hooked a fish. But it was a nice dorado so we didn’t complain. I cooked some up right away for a snack before dinner. Doroado is definitely my favorite fish. We haven’t had any since November so it was a nice treat.
Sirocco was the second boat to arrive in the anchorage on Monday afternoon. We set our anchor, went swimming, had a cold beer, and watched the rest of the fleet come in. Eventually our friends aboard Pacifico, So Inclined, Blue Rodeo and Swift Current set anchors around us. Some boats arrived after sunset
